Meet Tina Taylor, the latest addition to our dedicated breeder team, and our new Petplan Breeder Relationship Manager.
Tina has had dogs in the family since she was 11 years old. At 17, Tina got her first dog, a rescue named Shadow, who was a Labrador cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
"Shadow was a challenging dog, but we had a fabulous time together doing fun obedience, passing our Kennel Club Bronze good citizens test before going into flyball where I captained one of the 'Cool Runners' teams."
"Shadow loved a ball and was mad for chasing birds. He left a massive hole in my life when I had to say goodbye back in 2018", says Tina.
In August 2013, Tina brought home her first German Spitz, Merlin, more commonly known as Squirrel. Soon after, Tina took up agility and began showing. Tina competed in her first ever show with Merlin where she qualified for Crufts. Merlin then went on to place at their first ever Crufts.
Bringing Merlin home saw the start of Tina’s passion for the German Spitz breed.
"Nearly a decade later, I have been bitten by the bug showing under the 'Tispitza' affix. Before lockdown, my girl Raven CH Clarmers Mischief, managed under Tispitza JW, earned her title, taking three CCs, two with BOB in 2019. I'm very excited to get back out with her and her children – Erasbeth and Bronson. I still compete in agility, with Merlin being a grade 4 agility dog and having earned his Bronze agility warrant."
As part of our ongoing efforts to support responsible breeding, Tina helps us to monitor the Petplan Breeder Charter and ensure that all breeders activating Petplan insurance are responsibly breeding and selling puppies and kittens.
Tina’s day-to-day role involves visiting our breeders, listening to feedback, keeping up to date with legislative changes, reviewing claims information to help monitor the health of puppies and kittens being bred and much, much more.
We caught up with Tina to find out more about her, and her experience.
"Having worked in corporate insurance for a long time, I wanted to work for a company where I had a real passion for what I do. Petplan is a great company, supporting the nation's pets and their owners, and their ethos is really refreshing", explains Tina.
"Petplan offers a great support network not just for breeders, but vets and animal charities, too. The quality of the insurance cover means they cover things other policies don’t and this is really important in helping ensure pets can get the best possible care, and I am excited to be highlighting this to new and existing breeders and making a difference to the health of puppies."
